Your privacy
Privacy Policy
Effective August 7, 2026
Lock In helps you protect focused time, grow virtual trees, track progress, and focus with friends. This policy explains what information Lock In collects, why it is used, and the choices available to you.
1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the Lock In mobile application and the services that support it (collectively, the “Service”). By using the Service, you acknowledge the practices described below.
2. Information We Collect
Account and contact information
When you create or use an account, we may collect your display name, email address, authentication provider information, and an account identifier. If you use Sign in with Apple, Apple may provide your name and an email address, including a private relay address if you choose to hide your email.
Profile and social information
We collect the profile name and emoji avatar you choose, your friend connections, friend requests, privacy preferences, invitations, join requests, reactions, likes, leaderboard participation, activity-feed events, and related social interactions.
Focus and game-like progress
We collect information needed to provide and synchronize the Service, including focus-session timing and status, tree records and custom tree names, XP, coins, streaks, unlocked seeds, virtual transaction history, rankings, rewards, and Together Lock In room and participation records.
Device, notification, and technical information
We collect an app-generated device identifier for session security and single-device account coordination. If you enable notifications, we collect notification registration tokens. Our service providers may also process device model, language, time zone, operating-system version, app identifier and version, IP address, SDK user-agent information, and limited diagnostic metadata needed to deliver, secure, maintain, and improve their services.
Information stored only on your device
Your task titles, task notes, due dates, and task reminders are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded to our Firebase database. Lock In uses Apple Screen Time frameworks to apply restrictions during a focus session. Lock In does not collect your browsing history or a list of the apps or websites you use.
3. How We Use Information
We use collected information to:
- Create, authenticate, secure, and manage your account.
- Synchronize focus progress, trees, rewards, and account state across devices.
- Provide friends, activity feeds, leaderboards, notifications, and Together Lock In sessions.
- Remember your settings and enforce your privacy choices.
- Prevent fraud, abuse, duplicate session use, and unauthorized access.
- Maintain service reliability, troubleshoot problems, and understand technical performance.
- Comply with applicable law and enforce our policies.
We do not use your information for third-party advertising, and we do not track you across apps or websites owned by other companies for advertising purposes.
4. When Information Is Shared
We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers. We use Google Firebase services, including Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Realtime Database, Cloud Messaging, and related infrastructure, to operate the Service. These providers process information on our behalf under their applicable terms and privacy safeguards. We require service providers that process personal information for us to protect it consistently with this policy and applicable law.
- Other users. Depending on your settings and use of social features, your display name, emoji avatar, focus statistics, trees, activity events, presence, leaderboard results, friend list, and Together Lock In participation may be visible to friends or other Lock In users. You can adjust available visibility controls in the app.
- Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights or safety, investigate abuse, or secure the Service.
- Business changes. If the Service is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred subject to appropriate notice and protections.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
We retain account and Service data for as long as your account remains active or as needed to provide the Service. We may retain limited information for a reasonable period when necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, legal compliance, or enforcement. Backup copies may remain for a limited period before being deleted or overwritten in accordance with our service providers’ practices.
You may initiate deletion of your account and associated personal information from Settings in the app, or request deletion by contacting us at lockinapp.support@gmail.com. We may ask you to verify account ownership before completing a deletion request. Some information may be retained when required by law or for legitimate security purposes.
6. Your Choices
- Update your display name, emoji avatar, and profile visibility settings in the app.
- Manage notification permission in iOS Settings and motivation-notification preferences in Lock In.
- Manage or revoke Screen Time authorization through your device settings.
- Remove friends and delete eligible activity posts or stored trees using available app controls.
- Request access, correction, or deletion of personal information by contacting us.
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. Data transmitted to Firebase services is encrypted in transit, and supported Firebase services encrypt data at rest. No security method is completely reliable, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. International Processing
Lock In and its service providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Where required, we rely on appropriate legal mechanisms and contractual protections for international data transfers.
9. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and take appropriate action.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the Service or legal requirements change. We will update the effective date on this page and provide additional notice when required. Your continued use of the Service after an update is subject to the revised policy.
